Statement as issued Thursday by Indiana Department of Natural Resources:
The refrigerated toboggan run at Pokagon State Park can now be watched from the comfort of your home on a computer or hand-held device.
With financial support from the Steuben County Tourism Bureau, Pokagon State Park now provides a live webcam that offers a real-time view of the toboggan run from a tower overlooking its twin tracks. The Pokagon toboggan run is the only one in Indiana and one of only two in the Midwest.
The webcam can be accessed at TobogganRun.com, where viewers can also take a virtual toboggan ride and find fees and hours of operation. The cam is also available on the bureau’s website at Lakes101.org.
The toboggan run is refrigerated and open all winter weekends until Feb. 24. The run can operate when there is no snow on the ground and temperatures are above freezing.
To see riders racing down the toboggan run, view the webcam during the toboggan run’s operating hours: Fridays, 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The run is also open special hours on certain holidays. Holiday hours and additional information is available at TobogganRun.com.
Even when the toboggan run is closed, the webcam is a great way to see local snow and weather conditions, said Pokagon interpreter Fred Wooley. Additionally, viewers may see people hiking the often crowded sidewalk next to the toboggan run, or observe wildlife.
“Who knows what might come zipping by at other times when the toboggans are not,” Wooley said.
Pokagon State Park is at 450 Lane 100 Lake James, Angola, 46703.View comments
