Silverado, Sierra part of GM pickup recall
General Motors is recalling almost 69,000 pickup trucks, SUVs and vans worldwide because they can roll away unexpectedly.
The recall affects certain 2013 models of the Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche and Express. Also included are the GMC Sierra, Savana and Yukon as well as the Cadillac Escalade.
Some of the Silverado and Sierra pickups appear to have been assembled at the Allen County truck assembly plant, GM spokeswoman Stephanie Jentgen said in an email Friday.
GM says the vehicles may have been built with faulty park lock cables or malformed steering column lock gears.
The vehicles can be shifted out of Park even if the ignition key is in the off position or removed.
About 1 in 100 vehicles has the problem, and most havent been sold yet.
No crashes or injuries have been attributed to the defect. Dealers will replace the steering column free of charge if necessary.
PNC Bank taking steps to stop cyberattacks
PNC Bank has warned customers its websites are getting hit with high traffic consistent with computer attacks.
In an email sent to nearly 5 million customers, PNC Bank says the traffic is meant to cause delays for legitimate online banking customers. It says other banks are experiencing similar traffic spikes but did not identify them.
PNC Bank says that for several weeks it has worked to block the traffic and maintain online and mobile banking access for the vast majority of its customers. The company says it may have blocked access for a small percentage of its legitimate customers for an extended period.
PNC Bank assured its customers that its website uses encryption to protect customer information and accounts.
Service firms grow by most in 10 months
A gauge of U.S. service firms activity expanded in December by the most in nearly a year, driven by a jump in new orders and hiring.
The Institute for Supply Management said Friday that its index of non-manufacturing activity rose to 56.1 in December from 54.7 in November. Thats the highest level since February and above the 12-month average of 54.7. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion.
A measure of new orders rose to the highest level since February, suggesting that consumers and companies kept spending even as the country moved closer to the fiscal cliff.
