Noble County authorities dealt with a domestic disturbance on Christmas Eve that turned into a standoff at a Ligonier home.
Police officers were sent to the home about 6:50 p.m. where they learned that a man had hit his girlfriend several times and dragged her inside, according to Ligonier police.
Officers knocked on the door and used a loudspeaker, trying to persuade them to come outside. When that failed, the Noble County Special Operations Group was dispatched to the scene, police said.
A crisis negotiator spoke to the man on the phone for several minutes, and the woman was allowed leave the home, police said. Soon afterward, about 9:40 p.m., the man came outside and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
The man, identified as Michael Strammer, 50, was booked into the Noble County Jail on preliminary charges of domestic battery and resisting law enforcement, both felonies. He was being held Tuesday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
