FORT WAYNE – Saint Francis’ women’s basketball team overwhelmed cross-town foe Indiana Tech with sheer numbers Tuesday night to remain unbeaten.
Five Cougars, led by Meghan Slusher with 21 points, reached double figures as Saint Francis (12-0) turned back Tech 78-67 at Schaefer Center. Brooke Ridley added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Kayla Drake 13 points and Skylarr Shurn and Jenelle Wilson 10 apiece.
The Cougars’ 12-0 start is the best in school history, eclipsing the 11-0 start of the 1999-2000 team.
Rachael Kruse led Tech (3-10) with 23 points and eight boards.
DETROIT 88, IPFW 58: The Mastodons led 20-11 after 6 1/2 minutes, but Detroit went on a 32-8 run to close the half and build a 43-28 lead that only got bigger. Shareta Brown, the nation’s leading scorer, dropped 34 points and nine rebounds on IPFW for the Titans (6-4). Amanda Hyde led IPFW (3-8) with 19 points and Haley Seibert added 15.
WYOMING 64, BALL STATE 61: Katie Murphy scored 16 points and Shelbie Justice 15 but it wasn’t quite enough at Muncie. Wyoming (9-2) took command with a 14-1 run to begin the second half and another 9-0 run. The Cardinals (3-9) got back within a point with 16 seconds left, but got no closer.
TRINE 53, MANCHESTER 42: Sydney Spragg scored 17 points, Haley Killingbeck 12 and 12 rebounds and Megan Loveberry 13 points to lead host Trine (6-4).
