After a brief meeting, members of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority Board of Directors approved new airport rates and charges for the coming year.
The rates are reviewed annually, said Scott Hinderman, executive director of the airport. No one spoke for or against the changes at a public hearing Monday during the regular business meeting.
Three rate increases and one decrease were included in the approved changes.
Boarding security charges charged to airlines will be $28.68, an increase of $1.59 over this year.
Terminal rental rate will be $38.94 per square foot, a decrease of 97 cents per square foot.
Landing fees for signatory carriers will be $2.45 per 1,000 pounds, an increase of 1 cent.
Apron fees – charges for the area where planes are usually parked, loaded, unloaded or refueled – will be 49 cents per 1,000 pounds, an increase of 4 cents.
$107,314 earmarked for radio equipment
In other business, the air board approved the second portion of a new radio and communications package for $107,314.
The purchase completes a bid awarded to J&K Communications Inc. at last month’s meeting where the board agreed to purchase the first portion of radios, base stations and other equipment for $151,499.
The new system is necessary to comply with an unfunded mandate from the Federal Communications Commission requiring all emergency call centers to narrow-band their communications frequencies by Jan. 1, 2013, said Craig Williams, the airport’s director of operations and facilities.
The most recent purchase includes 20 radios and related equipment for both Fort Wayne International Airport and Smith Field, Williams said.
