Police post video footage to help crack city slaying

– With few leads and little information about the person who shot and killed a Fort Wayne man at Pontiac Mall last month, police are hoping video footage from the shooting might help solve the case.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m. Nov. 28, a man entered Pontiac Mall at 1108 E. Pontiac St. and walked down the hall toward E&M Barbershop. A few minutes later, according to witnesses, the man re-emerged and ran from the mall after shooting Kenton Allen Beckman, 44.

Beckman was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center and died shortly after arrival.

The man police are looking for was last seen wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head. He was black.

“Usually, we do get information in our homicide investigations,” said Raquel Foster, a police spokeswoman. “In this investigation, we have very few leads.”

Foster said that although investigators have talked to several people who were in the mall during the shooting and several customers in the barbershop who were direct eyewitnesses, no one has come forward with a name.

“There was one man who was in the barbershop with (Beckman) during the shooting, and he didn’t even know who it was,” Foster said. “We need someone to provide us with the name and until that, we’re stuck.”

On Thursday, police released a surveillance video from the shooting.

Anyone having information is asked to call Fort Wayne police at 427-1222, or CrimeStoppers at 436-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Allen County has seen 28 homicides this year.
