FORT WAYNE – A man wearing a puffy winter coat and ski goggles robbed a PNC Bank on Fort Waynes southwest side Wednesday morning, city police said.
It was the fourth robbery of a financial institution in the city in the last four weeks and the 15th this year.
Police responded to the PNC Bank branch at 5610 Coventry Lane about 9:40 a.m. Witnesses said the man entered the bank and approached the counter with a note demanding cash. He then fled through the front door with an undisclosed amount of money and ran west into a nearby residential area.
There were several bank employees inside the bank when the robbery occurred, but no injuries were reported. No customers were inside the bank during the holdup, police said.
A police dog tracked the robber west from the bank, police said, but lost the scent in the 5100 block of Coventry Lane.
According to police, the man was 30 to 40 years old and white, weighing 200 to 250 pounds with light facial hair described as having a red tint. He was last seen wearing a striped hat, ski goggles with a gold tint, a puffy black coat and black pants with a white stripe along each pant leg.
Anyone knowing the identity of the robber is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867. A cash reward is possible for information received.
The robbery remains under investigation by the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force.
