2 dead after Indianapolis workplace shooting

– A worker at Con-Agra Foods plant in Indianapolis fatally shot a co-worker Friday night and then turned the gun on himself.

Police spokesman Michael Hewitt said Friday night that the shooting, which he called an "apparent murder/suicide," happened in the break room about 6:40 p.m. and was witnessed by another worker.

Con-Agra spokesman Dan Hare confirmed Saturday morning that the two men were employees at the south-side Indianapolis plant. He referred all other questions to the Indianapolis police.

Police have not released the names of the men as of Saturday morning.

"We're saddened by the tragic event, and our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones," Hare said.

The gunman entered the break room, looked at the witness and left the room, police said Friday. He returned with a gun and fired several times, striking the victim.

The gunman then shot himself; he died at the scene. The other man died at a hospital.

Hewitt said Friday that investigators don't know the motive for the shooting. He also didn't know what type of firearm was used.

Con-Agra manufactures food brands, such as Banquet, Hunt's and Chef Boyardee.
