Chris Stavreti, who guided Northrop to the 1983 state championship and one of the architects of high school baseball in northeast Indiana, died today at his home. He was 73.
Stavreti, who had coached 26 years at Northrop, had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease in the spring of 2011.
Staverti led the Bruins to 526 wins, nine SAC championships, 12 sectional titles, seven regional championships and three semistate titles before he retired in 1997. He was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie, and daughter, Sherri.
