54 to get Swagger Awards

Statement as issued Thursday by the alliance:

Fort Wayne, Ind. (November 8, 2012) — The Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance announced that it will be hosting an awards ceremony recognizing business growth in Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana. The Swagger Awards will be held Thursday, November 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Philmore on Broadway. Brook Steed, regional director of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), will emcee the event.

“2011 was a record breaking year for businesses growing in Fort Wayne and Allen County,” said Mick McCollum, Alliance interim president. “The Swagger Awards give us the opportunity to recognize companies who are succeeding in challenging economic times and working to create a vibrant community.”

The Swagger Awards will honor companies in seven categories: Business Expansion, Small Business, Redevelopment, New Business, Sustainer, Downtown Development, and Airport Development.

In addition to honoring local businesses, the signature award of the night is the Maclyn Parker Swagger Award for Community Spirit which is given to a Fort Wayne citizen who has exemplified their commitment to making Fort Wayne and Allen County a thriving community by being a strong advocate for economic development.

Presenting awards to each of the 54 businesses being honored will be Deputy Mayor Mark Becker representing the City of Fort Wayne and Commissioner Nelson Peters representing Allen County.

“Fort Wayne is an all-American community that understands what it takes to be a world-class competitor,” stated Mark Becker, City of Fort Wayne Deputy Mayor. “The Swagger Award recipients epitomize that spirit. It is a pleasure to salute these companies for their innovation and commitment to excellence, especially in these tough times. Through their significant investments and job creation efforts, they are strengthening our economy and sending a powerful signal that this is a great place to do business. We applaud their success.”

“It is important to acknowledge the businesses that have contributed to both the economy and the spirit of our community," said Nelson Peters, Allen County Commissioner. "These awards are a celebration of the good news and the positive effects resulting from the growth of these businesses in Allen County. ”

We have several sponsors for the 3rd Annual Swagger Awards in 2012. The Gold level sponsors are the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority, Indiana Tech, Parkview Hospital, and Mr. Maclyn Parker.

The Silver level sponsors are NIPSCO and General Motors.
