Police officer accused of firing gun in air

GARY, Ind. – A Gary police officer accused of firing several shots into the air following an argument over a woman has been charged with a felony count of intimidation.

The Post-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/xa0ckA) that 27-year-old Laron Leslie faces up to eight years in prison if convicted. A Lake County Jail spokeswoman said Leslie was being held Wednesday without bond. There was no record indicating that he had hired an attorney.

A probable cause affidavit says Leslie admitted that he threatened the man and “fired three or four shots into the air.”

Leslie has been restricted to desk duty since he crashed his marked squad car while off duty in September. The Post-Tribune reports Leslie was already facing termination because he was accused of smoking marijuana and drinking before the crash.
