Some folks ignored game

The world did, in fact, go on as the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints battled for the Super Bowl title Sunday night.

Fort Wayne residents shopped for groceries, browsed books, went to the movies and did other errands while many others in the area had their eyes glued to the homestate team. Huntington residents Nabrissa and Timothy Bard sat in the Jefferson Pointe Barnes & Noble bookstore café, oblivious to the NFL title game on TV.

“I’m not American, and thus I’m not into the whole football thing,” said Nabrissa, 26, a French native who grew up in Senegal. “If it were soccer it would be a different story.”

Nabrissa and husband Timothy tried to watch a Colts game a couple of weeks ago but couldn’t get interested. Timothy said he isn’t a sports fan, but Nabrissa has a better explanation.

“He’s a nerd,” Nabrissa said.

Sitting nearby was Cathy Dancer, a Fort Wayne resident who popped in the bookstore with her husband after having dinner at O’Charley’s.

“We’ll watch the ending but not all of the game,” said Dancer, 60. “I’m for the Colts, but I really don’t care for football.”

Angie Lemert, 36, shopped at the Scott’s Food and Pharmacy on North Clinton Street with her 3-year-old son, Jackson. Lemert had no plans to watch the Super Bowl but said she was rooting for the Saints to win because she and her husband were married in New Orleans and spent a lot of time there.

“(I’m) just not a football fan,” said Lemert, of Fort Wayne. “I will probably be watching the Disney Channel.”
